Leadership
Founder & Chief Executive Officer, ALP Group. Two decades building independent insurance advisory across European and emerging markets.
“ Good advice has to be independent, and independence has to be earned market by market — not assumed.
Louis Coomans's career in insurance began almost by accident — in Brussels, in the early 1990s, at Concept Benelux, part of the Credit Lyonnais group. It turned into a two-decade arc that would take him through nearly every layer of one of the world's largest insurance broking houses.
From 1994 to 2014, Louis built his career inside Marsh & McLennan Companies, rising through the organisation to become Managing Director of Marsh Europe and CEO of Marsh's operations across Eastern Europe, while also sitting on the board of Marsh Switzerland. Working across dozens of markets with vastly different regulatory cultures and risk appetites shaped the instinct that still defines his approach today.
That instinct found its clearest expression when he took the helm of INSIA Europe, the retail distribution network Marsh acquired in 2011 — a chance to run something closer to the ground, with the discipline of a global institution behind it but the agility of a much smaller one.
Founding ALP Group was less a career pivot than a natural next step: taking everything those twenty years had taught him about capacity, trust and emerging markets, and building an independent platform to put it to work.
